AlloyTech : E-Commerce : Sales Assisted Simulated E-Commerce

Sales Assisted Simulated E-Commerce (SASE)

True E-commerce allows a visitor to a company website to use a "shopping basket" to shop through a list of available products, all the while checking unit prices. Once completed, the visitor can then go to a check-out area where their selections are totaled and using a secure transactional browser, they can order the goods selected.

The advantages of this sort of system are tremendous. On the seller side, savings arise from greatly reduced salaries and related overhead costs. For the buyer, savings come from reduced prices and convenience.

Requisite in this system however, is an enormous initial outlay of funds for hardware and coding, as well as the requirement of publishing your company price list online. True, security can be implemented to minimize your exposure by using a password protected portion of your site, but in the end, you must face the very real possibility that your competition will gain access to your pricing and under-cut you at every turn.

What we propose as a first step is a Simulated E-commerce site. A quick overview of our solution would be this:

  1. A visitor comes to your site and selects the materials that they require for a quotation from your online product catalog, utilizing the proven shopping basket concept.

  2. Once they build their RFQ, the request is sent to your E-commerce Team via Email, where a salesperson works up the pricing and then posts that pricing to an online page that we will develop for you.

  3. At the same time, an Email goes back to the buyer notifying him that the quotation is prepared and online at your RFQ center. The buyer is given a hyperlink address to view the quotation, along with an RFQ number to access the quotation.

  4. The buyer can now go online, view the quotation and either place the order, or respond with a modification or question.

  5. If the buyer chooses to place an order, he can chose to do so online by account number, or go to a secure transaction site to order via credit card.

The functional advantages of this sort of system are numerous.

  • By keeping a salesperson in the loop, suppliers can tightly control who accesses the system and more importantly, exactly what information is gained from it.

  • A system of this sort can use password protection that would allow your marketing team to begin to build a database of a given metal buyer's preferences.

In addition to being cost effective to implement, the system's track record over the months will provide solid data with which management can make better informed decisions regarding future investments in E-commerce.
